Privacy Policy

Gibbous is made by Handler Labs LLC. This policy explains what the Gibbous app and the getgibbous.com website do with your information. The short version: Gibbous has no account, collects no personal data, shows no ads, and does not track you.

The short version

  • No account. You do not sign up, and we do not know who you are.
  • No data collection. Your settings, saved places, and bookmarks live on your device and sync only through your own iCloud, which is Apple’s service under your Apple ID. We do not run a server that stores your data, and we cannot see it.
  • No tracking, no ads, no data sale. Ever.

Location

Location is optional. If you allow it, Gibbous uses a coarse, city-level location on your device to calculate accurate moonrise and moonset times and the best times to photograph the moon. Your location is never uploaded to us and is not used to track you. You can turn it off at any time in the iOS Settings app, and Gibbous still works.

iCloud sync

If you use iCloud, your Gibbous settings and saved places sync across your devices through Apple’s CloudKit, tied to your Apple ID. This data is stored in your private iCloud database, which Apple secures and which we do not have access to. See Apple’s Privacy Policy for how Apple handles iCloud data.

Purchases

Subscriptions and the one-time purchase are handled by Apple through the App Store. Whether Premium is active is verified on your device using Apple’s StoreKit. We do not run a purchase server, we use no third-party payment or subscription provider, and we never receive your payment details. Apple processes the information needed to complete and validate a purchase; it does not receive any of your moon settings, locations, or usage. See Apple’s privacy policy for details.

Notifications

Full moon, new moon, eclipse, and supermoon alerts are scheduled on your device from the moon’s own cycle. We do not send push notifications from a server, and scheduling an alert does not send anything to us.

Analytics and crash reporting

Gibbous does not include analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. We do not collect usage data.

Children

Gibbous is not directed to children, and it collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Your rights by region

We hold no personal data about you, so on our side there is nothing to access, correct, export, or delete. You control your data directly: delete the app to remove on-device data, manage or remove iCloud data in your Apple ID settings, and manage your subscription in the App Store. The rights below still apply; they simply have little for us to act on, because we hold nothing about you.

  • European Economic Area and United Kingdom (GDPR and UK GDPR). You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office). Because Gibbous transmits no personal data to us, we carry out no processing of your personal data as a controller. The controller, if reached, is Handler Labs LLC.
  • Canada (PIPEDA) and Quebec (Law 25). You may ask about our handling of personal information and complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Commission d’acces a l’information du Quebec.   • United States (California CCPA and CPRA, and other state laws). You have the rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell or share it, and we collect none.
  • Brazil (LGPD). You have the rights of confirmation, access, correction, anonymization, portability, and deletion, and may contact the national data protection authority (ANPD). Our data protection contact is below.
  • Australia (Privacy Act 1988) and New Zealand (Privacy Act 2020). You may ask about our handling of personal information and complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner.
  • Japan (APPI). You may request the disclosure, correction, or deletion of retained personal data. We retain none. The business operator is Handler Labs LLC.

Website

The getgibbous.com website is a static marketing and reference site. It does not require sign-in. If we ever add analytics or a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for consent first where the law requires it, and update this policy.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and post the new version here.
